Ladies’s Water Polo – Wed, Jan. 26, 2022
OAKLAND, Calif. – The Biola ladies’s water polo program raised some eyebrows in its first foray of varsity competitors.
Led by Veralie Naranjo’s five-goal efficiency, Biola pushed top-ranked Division III Pomona-Pitzer in its season opener, falling to the Sagehens by a slim 9-7 margin. They adopted that efficiency just a few hours later with a radical six-goal victory over La Verne, using Rachel Spadt’s six-goal outburst.
Clearly, the Eagles are to not be missed this inaugural season.
Cal State East Bay opened the yr by beating two of its WWPA West Area counterparts, Cal State Monterey Bay (13-4) and Fresno Pacific (20-10) on the Aggie Shootout.
The East Area will get into the act this weekend, as Mercyhurst and Gannon journey to the Bucknell Invitational, and Salem heads to Ann Arbor for the Michigan Invite.
WWPA Participant of the Week
Biola’s Rachel Spadt helped the Eagles to a .500 begin of their inaugural season. The freshman utility from Fullerton registered a game-high six scores and an help as Biola routed La Verne 16-7 in this system’s first-ever varsity win. She completed the week with seven targets, two assists and three steals.
