The famous Mamelodi Sundowns drum and atmosphere created by lead drummer John “Black” Madumo, who belongs to the Eersterust supporters’ branch, has been sorely missed since the pandemic forced games to be played behind closed doors.
Madumo last attended a game more than two years ago, and has now sadly passed away.
“It is with a heavy heart that we announce the departure of our beloved Master Drummer, John Black Madumo,” Sundowns said in a statement. “May your drum beat remain throughout the Yellow Nation forever!”
On Monday, Mosimane also paid tribute to Madumo as he shared an anecdote of how he donated the drum he used.

“It is very sad because we enjoyed being in the stadium a lot and when you are no longer at the stadium, we are not really free because in my entire life, I have never been subjected to this. I love sports.
“I know that every weekend and during the week when I have time I would go watch Sundowns” he added.
Just recently the Premier Soccer League (PSL) made the decision to allow the return of football fans to stadiums in South Africa. PSL chairperson Dr Irvin Khoza confirmed that spectators will be permitted to return from early April for the Nedbank Cup quarter-finals.
