Michael Gallup Could Miss Multiple Games Next Season

Earlier this offseason, Cowboys wide receiver Michael Gallup signed a longterm extension deal to stay with the Dallas organization.

Jerry Jones and the Cowboys franchise handed Gallup this big-time payday despite some concerning injury issues heading into the 2022 season. In a Week 17 matchup against the Arizona Cardinals, the 26-year-old wideout suffered a season-ending ACL tear while reeling in a touchdown pass.

Cowboys vice president Stephen Jones says Gallup could miss the first two or three games of the 2022 season, per Dallas insider Clarence Hill Jr.

This statement echoes comments made by team owner Jerry Jones on Monday.

“Optimistically, I expect him to give us a question mark around the first game. And I see a conversation that says conservatively, you would like to have a couple more games to get him out there,” he said, per Michael Gehlken of the Dallas Morning News.

With the team moving on from No. 1 wide receiver Amari Cooper earlier this offseason, Gallup’s services will be even more important in the Cowboys’ upcoming campaign.

Since joining the Cowboys as a third-round pick in the 2018 draft, Gallup has emerged as one of Dak Prescott’s favorite targets. Through his first four seasons with the franchise, he’s logged 2,902 yards and 15 touchdowns.

Gallup is entering the first year of his five-year, $62.5 million deal in 2022.
