The Tunisian Olympic sailor Eya Guezguez has died in a coaching accident on the age of 17, the Worldwide Olympic Committee has introduced.
Guezguez, who represented Tunisia on the delayed 2020 Tokyo Video games, was crusing together with her twin sister, Sarra, when their boat capsized in robust winds. Eya died within the accident whereas Sarra, who competed alongside her in Tokyo within the 49er FX class, survived.
“I’m shocked by the information of sailor Eya Guezguez’s loss of life,” the IOC president, Thomas Bach, stated. “She was an inspiring expertise and function mannequin for her athletes’ technology.
“Eya Guezguez’s participation at Tokyo 2020 alongside her twin sister Sarra will proceed to encourage ladies in every single place. Our ideas are together with her household, associates and the Olympic group in Tunisia.”
The Tunisian Olympic Committee reported the information on its Fb web page, with the committee president, Mehrez Boussayan, telling native radio that the accident occurred off the coast of the Tunisian capital, Tunis.
“Might Allah have mercy on the deceased, grant her everlasting relaxation in paradise, and grant her household and kinfolk and the whole sports activities household persistence and solace,” the committee assertion concluded.
